Everything you need to know about semi-permanent eyebrows
Semi-permanent makeup, also known as micropigmentation or cosmetic tattooing, is a technique that deposits pigment into the upper layers of the skin to enhance features like eyebrows, eyeliner, or lips. Unlike traditional tattoos, semi-permanent makeup uses pigments that gradually fade over time, typically lasting 1-3 years depending on the technique and aftercare.
Microblading uses a manual handheld tool to create fine, hair-like strokes that mimic natural brow hairs. It's ideal for those wanting a natural, feathered look.
Ombre Brows (or powder brows) create a soft, powdered makeup effect with a gradient from light to dark. This technique is done with a machine and gives a filled-in appearance.
Combination Brows blend both techniques - hair strokes at the front of the brow transitioning to a powdered finish through the body and tail. This offers the most natural yet defined look.
Microblading typically lasts 12-18 months, while ombre and combination brows can last 18-24 months. The longevity depends on factors like your skin type, lifestyle, sun exposure, and skincare routine. Oily skin tends to fade faster, while dry skin retains pigment longer. Annual touch-ups are recommended to maintain the best results.
Most people are good candidates! Semi-permanent brows are perfect for those with sparse, thin, or over-plucked brows, anyone wanting to save time on their makeup routine, people with hair loss conditions, or those wanting to enhance their natural brow shape. However, it's not suitable for pregnant or nursing mothers, those on certain medications (like blood thinners), or people with specific skin conditions. We'll discuss your suitability during the consultation.
Most clients describe the sensation as mild discomfort rather than pain. We use a topical numbing cream before and during the procedure to minimize any discomfort. Many clients find it so comfortable that they relax or even doze off during the treatment! Pain tolerance varies from person to person, but the numbing makes it very manageable for the vast majority of clients.
Your first appointment will take approximately 2-3 hours. This includes consultation, custom brow design and mapping, color selection, numbing time, and the actual treatment. Touch-up appointments are typically shorter, around 1-2 hours. We never rush - taking the time to ensure perfect results is always our priority.
During your consultation, we'll discuss your desired look, assess your natural brow shape and skin type, review your medical history, and answer any questions you have. I'll also create a custom brow design using professional mapping techniques to find the perfect shape for your face. You'll approve everything before we begin the treatment. This is your opportunity to share your vision and ensure we're aligned on the result.
Absolutely! We'll work together to select a pigment color that complements your skin tone, hair color, and preferences. I'll custom mix colors if needed to achieve the perfect shade. For the shape, I use professional brow mapping to design a shape that flatters your facial structure and features, while also considering your personal style. You have full approval before any pigment is applied.

The healing process takes about 4-6 weeks total. Here's what to expect:
Proper aftercare is crucial for the best results! You'll receive detailed written instructions, but key points include:
A touch-up appointment is included 6-8 weeks after your initial treatment. This is essential to perfect the shape, color, and density, as everyone's skin retains pigment differently. After that, annual touch-ups are recommended to maintain your brows looking fresh. Some clients prefer to come every 12-18 months, while others may wait up to 2 years between touch-ups.
Once fully healed (after 6 weeks), yes! Many clients find they no longer need to fill in their brows daily, but you can still use brow products if desired for special occasions or to create a bolder look. During the healing period, however, you must avoid any makeup on the treated area.
Pricing varies by service:
All initial treatments include your first touch-up appointment 6-8 weeks later. Additional beauty services are priced separately. Free consultations are available if you'd like to meet and discuss your options before booking a treatment.
